Matt Murray out for at least six weeks

Mick McCarthy was talking about Wolves goalkeepers on the press conference today and revealed that Matt Murray has a long way to go before he can challenge Wayne Hennessey for the No 1 shirt

Matt is looking to get back after his first reserve game in a year. He might come back but it will be at least six weeks. That takes us to Christmas – that’s how many games and how many points? We’re delighted to have him back but let’s get him back in baby steps – we’re not pushing him.”

Mick is not worried, though, as Wayne Hennessey is doing so well in front of the net.

Hennessey has been brilliant. He’s 22 and a fabulous goalkeeper. He’s maturing into a really top class goalkeeper – he’s absolutely top drawer. I just think he’s had a stunning season so far.

  1. You’ve taken that out of context mate – 6 weeks is how long before he could be ready for the first team – he’s not injured again.

    • Out of what contest? I quoted what McCarthy said about Murray in a press conference. And that was all he said. He’s not injured again, but that was surely a setback in his rehabilitation and I think we will have to wait those sex weeks before we see him in a Reserves game again. And I really, really hope we will see him in a first team game some day, but I doubt it will be this season. But I hope he proves me wrong, cause in his best I believe he is better than Hennessey.
