A draw for Mancienne and England U-21

Michael Mancienne – Wolves player on loan from Chelsea – played the entire match when England U-21 accomplished to draw against Lithuania away tonight.

It was a frustrating game for the young squad who had hoped to close the year with a win to further secure a place in the finals. They managed, however to keep a clean sheet and the back four and Scott Loach between the posts should be pleased with themselves. Or five, because Kieran Gibbs, Arsenal, limped off after 20 minutes injured.

Daniel Sturridge had a couple of chances in the first ten but so did the Lithuanians who did shoot on distance a lot, according to the reports. And Andy Carroll fired twice but no luck.

Fabrice Muamba fired wide in the beginning of the second half and Caroll was closer when he hit the crossbar. Cleverley had a shout for goal later on but the Lithuanian keeper did his job. At the end Lansbury probably was worth a penalty when he went down in the area, but the referee was not impressed.

It will be interesting to see if McCarthy will follow Pearce’s managing and place Mancienne on the right in Wolves. But against Chelsea he will of course not be allowed to play.

Pearce has also told the press and Mancienne that it is vital that he plays every week to keep fit. If he doesn’t get in to the Wolves starting eleven he can very well be sent back to Chelsea in January to be loaned out to another team. But McCarthy’s decision should and will of course be based on what is best for Wolves.
