Murray agony: New damage to tendon

The slight discomfort Matt Murray felt when playing in the Reserves was worse than hoped for. A scan has shown up some damage to the tendon which is now set to require further treatment.

Matt’s got a bit of damage to the knee and he’ll be coming in next week so it can be looked at again. We don’t yet know the extent of it but it doesn’t appear to need an operation. However, he will have to undergo further treatment on the knee.”

Head of the medical department Steve Kemp:

Matt was unfortunate enough to re-injure his patella tendon in the early stages of the reserve game. Matt walked off the pitch at the reserve game and we were hopeful at the time that it would only be precautionary but the scan and a visit to the surgeon has shown reinjury to the patella tendon”.

Reinjuring the tendon was always a risk after his operation but after such a strong rehabilitation, it was extremely disappointing for everyone involved. The surgeon is fairly upbeat about Matt not needing another operation and confident in his recovery prospects. Matt will be back in to start his rehabilitation next week and while we can’t put a timescale on it we will be doing everything we can to see him through.”
