Halford: We had a game-plan to go one-up first 5

Greg Halford talks to Wolves official site about the upcoming matches and the match against Chelsea.

Teams like Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool aren’t going to make or break your season. Playing against teams like Birmingham, Portsmouth and the teams around you, that’s where we have to be picking up points. But if we can nick a few points off the top teams, then that’ll be great as well.

The squad here is the best squad that I’ve been in in the Premiership. We’ve got depth and a big squad and anyone can come in and do a good job. We have been creating a lot of chances but we just need that killer instinct. Our home form hasn’t been great this year but if we can do anything like what Stoke did last year we will be fine – there’s no reason why we can’t do it, the fans at Molineux are great.

About the match against Chelsea

They are the top club in the country at the minute and it was tough going there. We went with a game plan and should have gone one-up in the first five minutes but if you don’t put away those chances teams like Chelsea will punish you and that’s what they did.

We have been concentrating on set pieces because we have conceded a lot this season. We’ve been working on them so it was disappointing to concede the second goal in the way that we did.

We tried to keep a solid shape and be patient because obviously they are going to have a lot of the ball but when we do get the ball we have to keep hold of it, and we didn’t do that on Saturday. Chelsea have got a bit of everything. If they need to beat teams up they can do it, if they need to pass round teams they can do it – they’ve got everything.”

It is interesting that they had a game-plan that was to get a goal early in the match. They had a big chance in the third minute that could have resulted. Maybe the change of play when plan A did misfire should have been swifter and better performed. But let’s forget the past two now and concentrate on the matches ahead.

Greg Halford has been playing a lot for Wolves this season. More than most thought he would. Maybe this is a sign of weakness in the team, but we should not forget that we have had injuries and I think he has improved some with more games. But when Zubar is back and Foley is match fit I don’t see him as a regular starter in Wolves. But he is a very good utility player to have in a team.
