McCarthy about Kightly: He has looked good since new treatment

McCarthy had news filled with hope about Michael Kightly in a press conference yesterday. It seem that he responds to treatment and looks good in training.

Kights hasn’t really been at first team level but he was excellent on Tuesday night. He showed a real willingness and determination to get back fit and get back in the side. He trained really well yesterday.

He has been having some different treatment and he seems to have got his strength, power and sharpness back – we have missed that. Everyone thought he could play in the Premier League, but he has not had an opportunity really because he has not been fully fit. But I am not bleating because everyone gets injuries.

Kights has been given good time to get back, it has just been difficult for him. He has had little ailments on the back of his other injuries which happens. He has been our blue riband player because since walking in the door he has set the place alight. The one opportunity we have to set the place alight in the top flight he has not been with us – that’s sad because he was very instrumental in getting us there.

He has had understanding and no pressure from me to play – even when I left him out he could not come and knock on my door. He admitted it himself, he knows and that’s a nice quality for a player because they don’t all do that – there is a humility about him.

But that was a week ago. He has looked really good since this new treatment he’s been having. He trained great yesterday and I am pleased with him. I want Michael Kightly in the team – for me, for him, for the club. And when he gets fully fit he will be a threat.

We might just have to rest him after a game because he’s on anti-inflammatory treatment for his knees. But he really has responded to that, feeling stronger and sharper, so fingers crossed.

That already sounds better than a few days ago. I think all supporters has a soft spot for our right wing warrior since he came to Wolves and knows that he can spark the whole team to life with his energetic play. I really hope he will be back in his good old form and – if fit – can come in as a substitution and make a difference. Fingers crossed!

Michael Kightly on his way back – fingers crossed
