Thelwell on the Liverpool FC game: It was very even

The under 18’s coach Kevin Thelwell talks about the Wolves under 18’s experiences in the FA Youth Cup meeting with Liverpool (from the official site).

“I think it was a very even game, particularly before they scored but also throughout the 90 minutes. Both teams had created chances before their first goal, but that coming when it did for them was a real knockback.

And then the second goal coming shortly after half time made it difficult for us. We did have chances late on to get a goal but all in all it was probably a bit disappointing that we didn’t quite perform at the level which we can.

We did put out a young team again with a couple of under-16s and first years involved and it will have been great experience for them. There are some players who will never turn out at Anfield and so that is something to take away that they will never forget.

The result was obviously disappointing and we didn’t want to go out of the competition but the lads will have taken a lot from preparing for the game like a first team and playing at such an arena.

Mick and Terry were both there along with Jez and Richard Skirrow and Mick and Terry both came to speak to the lads before, during and after the game. That’s another positive for the lads to have been in that position with the manager and assistant manager talking to them in a group.
