Academy boss: The lads have to learn from the experience

Kevin Thelwell – the manager of the Wolves under 18’s team – today talked to the official site about the big loss against the Manchester City Academy and explained why it happened.

It was a disappointing end to a disappointing week. Having under-performed as a team in the cup at Liverpool, we then concede six on Saturday although in a strange way we were actually in the game for long periods.

Just after the hour mark James Spray got our goal which made the score 3-1 and our tails were up but then we folded again and let in another three goals late on. I’ve said before that we do play a young team with the intention of giving them experience and when that happens there is always the chance they will get unravelled from time to time. So although there’s no getting away from the fact it was a poor performance and disappointing result, the lads have to learn from the experience and move on.

I’ve obviously discussed the game at length with Mick (Halsall) and we’ll watch the video but the lads have come in this morning bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to get back to work to put things right.

Their next fixture is home to Everton on Saturday.

The under 18’s (then under 17) on a happier occasion this summer
