Rovers called the Shots and gets to meet Wolves

Has Paddy finally lost it? Why is he reporting from a match between a League two and a League one team with no Wolves players on the pitch?

It’s simple, really. A match against the mighty Wolves are what’s at stake for these teams and they fought it out in this replay of the second round of the FA Cup at the Recreation Ground in Aldershot.

Aldershot Town and Tranmere Rovers first meet in the cup ended a goalless draw and in the first half our of this match nothing much happened. It was Aldershot that had the more possession at first, but Rovers made their way into the game and after forty minutes they took the lead when a free-kick was played by Welsh to Thomas-Moore and though his initial cross deflected straight back to him, the striker volleyed in the rebound and found the back of the net from a tight angle inside the penalty box. The ball went up the top left corner. An event of dire portent for the home team in the last minutes of the first half.

Should Tranmere – with only one win away this season – go through to win the coveted ticket to play Wolves in the next round or could the Shots turn the match around?

But he second half was only three minutes when on-loan Manchester City defender Shaleum Logan crossed the ball from the right wing to Terry Gornell who managed to get control of the ball and found the back of the net for Tranmere and at the same time closed the Shots hope for another historical match against Wolves.

After that Aldershot had a few attempts on goal but nothing came out of it. But then Oliver Bozanic, soccero medfielder on loan from Reading, came in instead of a defender for the Shots and scored a consolation goal in the ninety-third minute. But in the end Tranmere could hold on to the lead.

Tranmere Rovers are through to meet Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup that will be played on the 2nd of January.
