Danny Batth nearly scored in Cup game

Out on-loan Wolves centre-back Danny Batth played for Colchester yesterday in the Essex Senior Cup against Redbridge. The scoreline was 3-1 and our young defender nearly scored.

The U’s were in front after just six minutes when McCloskey crossed from the byline for Pavett to head home from close range.
In the 16th minute the second came after the U’s were awarded a free kick that saw Thomas smash the ball into the bottom corner well beyond the Redbridge keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half Danny Batth had a header that was cleared off the line – the defender picking up an injury in the process – before the ball was played back into the area.

The Redbridge goal by Diaczuk gave the visitors some hope, but a finish by Amott of the U’s gave them a cushion to advance to the quarter finals of the cup.

Good for Danny Batth to get a match in, anyway. But the door to play in the league seem to be closed for him, as Read is picked well before him by Andy Boothroyd.
