Friend out bloody and dazed after Iron clash with Barnsley

The Wolves man-of-many-a-club George Friend – now at Scunthorpe – was sitting on the bench tonight again. But just before the half our into the match away at Barnsley the defender Williams – the man occupying the position of left back – limped of the pitch injured. And our man out on-loan could probably not believe his own luck. But that feeling was only to last for three quarters of an hour.

On he went and it was still no goals scored in the match. But Barnsley had a grip on the events and a couple of shots on goal. Not to be surprised of as Iron haven’t taken three points at Barnsley for fifty years. So George of Wolves could be historical this night.

Barnsley had a couple of corners after Friend came in, but the Iron dealt with that in a good fashion and they even had a chance to score when Rob Grant headed wide after at free kick. But when the first half ended it was still 0-0.

Just a few minutes after the first half started though, Barnsley scored their first as Bogdanovic on the right saw his excellent curling cross powerfully headed home from six yards by the Argentinian midfielder Hugo Colace to give the home team the lead.

But the Iron didn’t drop their heads. Only five minutes later they managed to score an equalizer through a Paul Hayes header.  Four minutes later our man on the pitch, George Friend, came off.  According to reports he was elbowed by the Maltesian international Daniel Bogdanovic and he went out bloody and dazed. I really hope he is alright. A bitter end to the match for Wolves out on-loan Friend.

Barnsley pressured Scunthorpe a great deal in the latter part of the game, but Iron had a spell in the end when they could have scored. It got a little ugly too with three bookings, when both teams looked for the winning goal. But the away team held out and got a well deserved point for it. I hope to report tomorrow about the severity of Friends injury. Hopefully it’s just a knock.
