Mick’s Preview: There is never a good time to play Manchester United

Mick McCarthy talked about the match against Manchester United at a press conference today

We are at 16 games with 16 points, a point a game. Over the season you need just a bit more than that. We were behind it and we are now back at the level now. If we end up with around 38 we will be in the ball park and if we can keep doing that all season long it will be the target.

About Wolves position in the league

I said we would have a good run and win a couple of games and someone else would lose as couple. We are now fourth bottom and now of course the worry is that we will drop into the bottom three – I am not bothered if we do. So long as we are not there come the end of the season that is when you don’t want to be there. All he stats about being doomed if you are there at Christmas were blown out of the water by West Bromwich Albion when they were bottom of the table and still stayed up. Just keep doing what we are doing. Keep picking up the points where we can when we can. Just keep grounded, keep doing what we are doing and see what happens.

About how Wolves will play tonight

I will be making changes but the lads who are playing will be wanting to win the game. But we will not be going and chasing it and playing free open and expansive football because if we do they will beat us – let’s clear that up. We will be cautious and disciplined like we were at Tottenham.

About the injuries at Manchester United

United have got loads of injuries. But I saw them play without any centre backs in the Champions League and give someone a slapping. I am not feeling sorry for them! There is never a good time to play them and it is probably even worse after they have just been beaten at home.”
