Will Wolves sign Blackburn striker Roberts?

There has been different rumours about strikers to Wolves in the January window. The latest was that Wolves were about to sign James Beattie, but the Wolves administration denied that one. The Mirror and other papers now writes about another player.

Blackburn striker Jason Roberts, 32 tomorrow, is reported to have caught the eyes of the Wolves scouts. Newcastle and Middlesboro are also interested in the Granada International. But only as a loan.

Roberts would not mind to go and Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce wants to sell him. But only on a permanent contract. And it probably takes a two year contract , which would be a gamble for any club at his age. Roberts is just coming back after a knee injury and will probably play against his old club Wigan on Wednesday.

I have written about and Wolves officials has talked about and the supporters are continuously talking about the need to get Premier League experience into the team. Roberts has over 150 matches in the Premiership and he has scored 29 goals if I’ve counted right. Is he the answer to all our prayers then?

I’m not so sure. Blackburn have the same problems as Wolves this season. They don’t score enough goals. Roberts has scored three this season in 14 games and he scored seven in 24 last season.

But if he can score three or four important goals for Wolves and adding to that be a good provider for Doyle and an important team player on and off the pitch I would go for it. He could be important for the development of Vokes as well.

But is this rumour really true, then. The Beattie rumour was denied by the Wolves Officials. Hard to say, really. With Vokes stepping up and The Hoff soon to be back and Iwelumo getting better it seem to be a little overkill to sign another striker permanently. The price tag of £1 million is not a problem, but the wages probably are. Maybe Wolves are trying to get him on loan, but I doubt that Blackburn would let him go out on-loan to Wolves.
