Loan Watch: One assist for Chris Iwelumo and Malone goes Dutch

The derby between Queens Park Rangers and Watford was postponed today after heavy rains and a soaked pitch at Loftus Road. So no play for out on-loan Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme and defender Matt Hill tonight.

But Big Chris Iwelumo played his first game at home for Bristol City against top Championship team Leicester. The Robins were lucky to have a goalless draw in sight when – on injury time – Iwelumo found Clarkson with a pass in the Leicester penalty area. He did no mistakes and sunndenly Bristol City were in the lead with only a few minutes left.

But the Robins must have thought that the game was already over and relexed too much, because Leicester equalised only a minute after the Bristol goal. Sour grapes for Big Chris and his team. They had really need for the three points tonight, but have to do with only one.

On the other hand it was Leicester who had the chances in this match. And an assist for Iwelumo could work magic for his self confidence and the possibility for him to be first choice as striker in the future.

In League One Wolves central defender Danny Batth sat on the bench as usual when Colchester United were victorious against Yeovil away. One goal from Odejayi was enough on a muddy pitch in a hard fought match.

Southend did not play tonight so Scott Malone could take a break. But early next month he is traveling to Waalwijk, Holland to play against the Dutch under-19 team in a friendly for England. He will probably travel together with his newfound friend Sanchez Watt – also on loan in Southend – from Arsenal. Here is the full squad for that match and gathering:

England squad: Nathan Baker (Lincoln City (On loan from Aston Villa)), John Bostock (Tottenham Hotspur), Matthew Briggs (Fulham), Reece Brown (Manchester United), Stephen Caulker (Yeovil Town (On loan from Tottenham Hotspur)), Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace), Roarie Deacon (Arsenal), Matthew James (Preston NE (On loan from Manchester United)), Scott Malone (Southend United (On loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers)), Ryan Mason (Yeovil Town (On loan from Tottenham Hotspur)), Jacob Mellis (Chelsea), Ryan Noble (Sunderland), Frank Nouble (WBA (On loan from West Ham United)), Liam O’Brien (Portsmouth), Dean Parrett (Tottenham Hotspur), Nile Ranger (Newcastle United), Declan Rudd (Norwich City), Sanchez Watt (Southend United (On loan from Arsenal)).

Paddytheflea will of course follow the under-19 team (well, in deed and spirit anyway) and report back to you.
