Wolves Women Watch: Through to the finals in the Cup

Wolves Women yesterday went victorious in the twice before postponed semi finals of the Birmingham County Cup against Leafield Athletics.

But the match went to extra time before it was decided by Wolves special goalscorer Dani Selmes. She also did Wolves first goal in an exiting game that finished 2-1 to Wolves. They will now face either Aston Villa or Birmingham City in the finals.

Manager Astle about the match (from Wolves Official Site):

“It was a hard game. Leafield were certainly a much better side than when we played them at home in the league. They never stopped running, and their confidence was high. In extra time the girls knew they didn’t want penalties, so we pressed on just looking for that goal, and in the end the pressure worked. For those watching it was a great spectacle of football. I’m proud of every single player, including the substitutes, because at the end of the day we’re a squad, and I know they’ll all be celebrating. There are a lot of youngsters in this team who’ve never played in a final before, which makes it all the more special for them.

Wolves Women: Thomas, Widdal, Coley, Perks, Salter, Morris, Pope, Quick, Selmes,  Richards, Packer. SUBS NOT USED: Large, Longhurst, Bradford, Durnall, Bavington.
