Dave Jones: I feel I’m getting stronger and more confident with each game
Midfielder Dave Jones is considered to be one of the main reasons to Wolves success run lately. Since he became a standard feature in the starting eleven Wolves is much more stable as a team, the passes works better and the team goes forward more frequent and with more players as well. The Daily Star has published an interview with manager Mick McCarthy on Jones.
“Someone gave me a stat about the number of points we won last season while he was in the team and it was amazing. Then he was injured early this season. But technically he is a Premier League player. And I have not met anybody yet who regrets having been at United. Players get a good grounding there and get an education in being grounded. Darron Gibson was a good lad when he was here on loan, Jonah, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake … United don’t sign bad players.”
“David is a conscientious guy who works at it. When the rest of us were on holiday last summer, he was off trying to improve his sprinting in America. He paid for it himself and went and did it. We didn’t tell him to go. He’s admired by every- body here for it. Whatever he can do to improve himself, he will do it.”
Dave Jones himself is happy to be offered a new contract with the club and he is enjoying his time at Wolverhampton, the Official Wolves Site writes.
“It’s great the gaffer has said the club are looking to offer me a new contract. We’ve not got around to any talks or anything like that but it’s pleasing to be in a position where the gaffer thinks I’m doing well. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and it will be nice to continue that. I felt I did o-k in the Premier League with Derby but that didn’t really matter because of the season the team had.”
“It took me a while to break into the team this season due to injuries and not being fully fit but now I’ve got my chance and feel I’m getting stronger and more confident with each game. It’s up to me to make sure that continues. As a club it probably couldn’t have gone much better since I arrived. Getting promoted in the first season and now getting into a good position to stay there. If we stay up it will make it a dream two years.“
Dave Jones has been excellent in the last two games and he has made two assists and one goal. And goals is what Wolves have lacked all season. But I’ve got a challenge for the lad. Nenad Milijas – the player whose position Jones made his own when coming back from injury – has scored two goals and made three assists this season. Jones has scored just the one goal and have two assists.
After the Everton game they have played the same amount of minutes this season. Dave Jones needs to score a goal and make one assist to be at par with Milijas tonight. Can you do that, please, Mr Jones?!
We already know, however, that Jones is a far better allround player than Milijas. He is better at tackles and to take on the opposing players and better to defend and a better passer. He is working much harder and he is much tougher. A type of player Wolves need to fend off attacks. But in the end it is goals and points that counts.
UP THE WOLVES!
