Wolves in successful foxhunt as Packer scored a Hat-trick

Foxes against Wolves – and there were of course no doubt about the final outcome. Wolves Women did win with 3-1 away against Loughborough Foxes in the league yesterday.

Wolves dominated and created many chances from the start this time. Maybe spring has made the team wake up earlier?! 😆

Wolves winger Packer was the player of the day and she out-paced the Loughborough defence on several occasions during the game. In the 25th minute she was fouled outside the penalty area and Wolves got a free. Packer stepped up to take it herself and launched a shot into the net from 25 yards out – putting Wolves ahead.

On one of Loughborough’s few chances – a corner after half an our – Smith bent the ball straight into the net to level the score. The second half saw Packer do exactly the same from the same corner, as she put Wolves back into the lead just after the hour.

Packer made it a hat-trick a quarter of an hour later when she received the ball, turned a Foxes defender and struck it neatly into the bottom left corner. Woman Of The Match without a doubt!

Manager James Astle to the Wolves Official Site:

We should have had more goals, but I’m pleased we’ve got another win under our belts, and we played some beautiful football. We dominated possession, had some great build-up play and a lot of shots on target. Both Kirstie Bavington and Rebecca Large came close to scoring towards the end, and Large did particularly well starting up front in an unfamiliar role due to a last minute injury to Sophie Richards. I’m really pleased for Hayley Packer getting her hat-trick, but unlike the Premier League, she wasn’t allowed to keep the match ball!”

Hmm. I guess that the League – or the teams in the league – can’t afford to give away the ball to the hat-trick scorers. Hope she took a picture of it to hang upp her wall. 😆 Well done, Hayley!

Wolves will play Rotherham United next Sunday at Goodrich Sports Ground, Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, with a 2pm kick-off. Be there to support Wolves Women! You can have a beer at half time in the club house. 😆

Wolves Women: Thomas, Widdal (Longhurst 67), Bradford (Durnall 45), Perks, Salter, Morris, Bavington, Quick, Selmes, Large, Packer.
