Probable Team Lineups: Portsmouth vs Wolves

Most of the pundits seem to believe that this is going to be a pretty boring match.

Neither of the teams has nothing much to play for and both secures defence before going forward. But maybe the fact that there isn’t anything to play for make the teams to loosen up a bit. Let’s hope so.

And it is not really true that they have nothing to play for. Each spot up the ladder in the tables is worth £750,000 for Wolves and the players of Pompey are playing for a start in the Cup final and are showing themselves to buyers from the league in the shop window.

It is very hard to pick the teams beforehand in this game as both managers may look to test some fringe players for future action. Both teams has a bunch of fringe players and a couple of Academy players that would love a game.

Jarvis is still injured at Wolves and McCarthy has already announced that Mujangi Bia will make his first start for Wolves on the left wing. And our revered captain Karl Henry is back. Some think that – or want – Wolves to play 4-4-2, but I don’t believe that will happen. But I do believe that Doyle will be rested and Ebanks-Blake will get a chance.

Other than that I think that Foley will be rested as well and Edwards will take the right wing spot. several interested players will wait on the bench and hope to play. Scott Malone may be one of them. Nat Mendez-Laing another.

Ikeme will be on the bench as Hennessey is slightly injured. Iwelumo and Guédioura may be the first to come on. But – as said – it is very hard to predict how Mick will handle the coaching this time.

Portsmouth FC are playing their last match on home soil in the Premiership for a while. They have played with a couple of Academy players lately because of injuries and contractual things. But now a couple of players are coming back and it is time for them to show that they want to play in the cup final.

I believe Prince-Boateng and Finnan will play from start. Utaka, Dindane and Boateng will be their threats going forward, as Piquionne’s got a knock latest. But as with Wolves it is really hard to know the exact lineup. Kanu will probably come on the second half.

Anyway. Here is my suggestion for the starting elevens. The result? I’m sorry, but I believe that Pompey will win this one with 2-0.
