Former Wolves player managed to draw against World Champions

I hope you have watched the World Cup on telly or even on site when New Zealand managed to get a draw against the world champions of Italy.

This was the biggest surprise until now in a World Cup that has given us a lot of surprises. And in the midst of it all – and the individual that should take most of the credit for the achievement – former Wolves central defender Ricki Herbert.

It’s the most incredible result we’ve had across the board. As a football coach, it’s way above anything we’ve achieved in the history of the game. We are always daring to dream. At the World Cup anything is possible – we’ve seen some strange results – but nothing as big as that one.”

“I think it has stopped the nation. I think it is the most incredible result we’ve had. I know it is early in the morning in New Zealand but I think there will be a lot of excitement back home. It’s more than anything we have achieved in the history of the game. I think it will be embraced enormously.”

I don’t think anyone remotely gave us a chance. We are doing okay for a team that supposedly has some amateurs and shouldn’t be in the World Cup. A lot of people felt we shouldn’t be in the World Cup or felt the way we qualified was easy. You can write your stories now.”

The media in New Zealand are hailing the achievement of their national football team as the best sports result ever in the history of the country. And it was all made possible by a former Wolves player.  They will probably be received by a parade when they return to their islands.
