Keogh To Reunite With Sharp

After a couple of days of rumours about it BBC today writes that Doncaster are interested in bringing Wolves striker Andy Keogh to them on loan.

Donny has splashed the cash to sign Keogh’s old play-mate Billy Sharp to the club and manager Sean O’Driscoll says:

To put Andy and Billy together again is something to consider. You talk to a lot of clubs about players without making a concrete offer and we have done that with Andy Keogh. It will all depend on what Andy’s situation is with Wolves. He knows a lot of our players and he is certainly someone who interests us.”

Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh made their names cling well together at Scunthorpe in the 2005-6 season, when they were the most potent strike-force in League One, scoring 38 goals between them (Keogh scored 15).

Billy says to BBC:

Keogh is one of my good mates. He has mentioned it to me, he wants to play football like me and Doncaster are interested in him. I think if Mick McCarthy would let him go out on loan then he will come here. If he does come here then it would be a brilliant addition to the squad.”

As you know I usually don’t write much about rumours. But this is really more than that. The manager of Doncaster clearly wants Keogh on loan and Wolves need to lay off a couple of players to meet the 25 player rule. And I’m sure that Andy wants to play regular football.

But having splashed their cash on Sharp I don’t believe that Doncaster can afford to buy out Keogh. But I do believe that it would be a golden opportunity for Andy to retrieve his scoring ability together with his old striker friend and make his way back to the forward squad of Wolves the season after this.

Therefore I find the probability of Keogh signing for Doncaster on loan very high indeed. The only question is if Andy wants a chance to get into this years team of Wolves before signing for  Donny. The deal could drag out or be done very soon.

According to McCarthy recently though, he wants his 25 men sorted out in good time before the season starts. My informed guess is that Andy Keogh will sign for Donny soon. And what a potent striking force they will get!
