Academy Under 18’s league season to start
The Wolves Under 18’s Academy Team will start the season in the Premier Academy League on Saturday with a home game at Compton Park at 12:00 against Ipswich Town.
The Academy has had a rough pre-season with a lot of injuries – I’ve seen mentioned that as much as ten players have been sidelined because of injury at one point. I really hope that they are beginning to come back now, as the season is about to start.
Pre-season results, though, has not been too bad – despite coach Mick Halsall has been forced to play younger, less experienced players instead of the injured.
Wolves started the pre-season by beating Hamilton and Millwall. Then they managed a draw with Wrexham, but suffered a defeat against Glasgow Rangers. Then they went to Derby and I’m not really sure of the result there (draw? win?, maybe somebody knows?) . Two weeks ago they lost with three games to nothing against Coventry away.
On Tuesday a week ago the lads played against FAI Under 17’s team and managed to hold the young Irish internationals to a draw. After the green ones took the lead Andre Landell managed to equalise through a penalty after being fauled in the area.
Manager Halsall was very pleased with the result:
“We did really well against Ireland today and fully deserved the draw we got against them. They had taken the lead through a very good goal but we equalised through Andre Landell’s penalty after he had been fouled in the Irish area. We had the chances to win it after the break, but I think that a draw was a fair enough result. I think it was a good response from our lads following on from the 3-0 loss we had in the friendly we had at Coventry at the weekend.”
Sounds good with a draw against a National youth side. Maybe McCarthy lured them to Compton to take a look if any of the young Irish internationals could be something to consider for Wolves in the future. Clever! 😆
So it’s Ipswich on Saturday at Compton. Hopes the lads gets a great start to the season and a great season aswell.
