Loan Watch: All win but DD

Let’s have a look at how it went for our players out on-loan, then

Peterborough went two down against Oldham, something they seem to do a lot. But as usual they bettered themselves and could win with a stunning 5-2 in the end. Wolves on loan winger Nat Mendez-Laing – who was back in contention after injury – came on as a substitute and did fairly well according to the reports. He was close to scoring a goal but headed over the bar just when he came on. By the win Posh became top of the table in League One.

Walsall are struggling a bit in the same league. But playing against the favorite to go down Rochdale many thought that Walsall would get the three. But Rochdale doesn’t listen to those prophecies and the birthplace of cooperation (in a business sense) earned themselves a win by 3-2, despite Walsall started well and took the lead in the fourth minute.

David Davis made his debut from start and did a descent job according to fans reports. He had a good shot trying to equalise in the 83rd minute, but it went out to the right. A minute later he got a yellow card.  Maybe the referee knew that he came from Wolverhampton?!

I had it totally wrong about Carl Ikeme. He was picked to play for Leicester City. I guess their first keeper Wheale weren’t totally fit yet then.

Leicester played a draw against Coventry and Carl had to take the first ball out from the netting after forty minutes when Platt scored with a header from closeup after a cross from McIndoe (still struggling in the CC are you?!) 😆

King managed to score for Leicester in the second half, but I guess that Leicester were the team closest to win that one after 11-1 in the stats for shots on goal. Ikeme had not much to do, it seems. Hope he will get more games – he needs that to develop as a keeper.

As I wrote yesterday I believed Keogh would get a chance from start for Cardiff as Bellamy and former Wolves player Bothroyd are injured. I was correct, of course and Andy Keogh started the game.

But it was another former Wolves player – tall Nigerian midfielder Olofinjana – who started the scoring for Cardiff against Hull. Himself out on-loan from Hull was apparently allowed to play against his ‘owners’ anyway and thanked them by a header – his first goal in ten months.

After halftime Keogh went close with a shot at goal. A bit after that Olofinjana went out injured. Another blow for the injury-hit Welsh team. But Rae came in for Olofinjana and scored the second Cardiff goal, so I guess that they have quality in-depth on the midfield as well as strikers.

And the defence ain’t bad either, as they have only let in two goals in four games and they have suffered no defeat and are – together wid QPR – top of the table.

One Cardiff supporter reports that Keogh did win a few headers and worked hard and ran far and another said that ‘Keogh worked his nuts off but didn’t really look like scoring’.  I’ve heard some Wolves supporters saying about the same about him.

Stefan ‘The Hoff’ Maierhofer didn’t score either but his team MSV Duisburg did win against former first tier team 1860 Munich with 2-1. They came from behind to claim the victory and it seem as The Hoff is in one of the best teams in that league. Good for him. Hopefully he will learn something from his team mates.

Elsewhere wolves related. Former midfielder Andrew Surman was injured in training in the week. He is expected to go missing for at least two months.

And let’s close this with former striker Big Chris Iwelumo who scored a hat-trick for Burnley yesterday. I’ve got a friend who says that he is not surprised. Big Chris has a habit of playing very well the first half-a-season whence coming  to a new club.

Some players need that kind of change of environment. He didn’t cut it in the Premier League for Wolves anyway, but he is a nice lad and I wish him all good for the season.

Here’s one of his goals from a fan-cam:

  1. Nothing but good wishes for Looms… may he score many many more!

Wish I was as positive about the Wolves at the minute… seems Mick’s found his Whacky Team Sheet pad again…
