Wolves Reserves to play Liverpool tonight

Wolves play in the Premier Reserves League tonight against Northern team Liverpool. The match is played at Tranmere Rovers home ground Prenton Park at 7pm (only £4).

Wolves will as usual play with a core of youngsters from the Development team, but I suspect that Mick will curry it up with a couple of first team players who need playing time (and I was right, see below).

The Reserves has only played one match in the league so far – when they lost out to Everton – but they played pretty well. So now it’s time to take on the other Liverpool club. What can they expect?

Liverpool has played two draws so far in the Reserves League – against Newcastle and Wigan. So they will be looking for a win – but so will Wolves.

Liverpool have – like  Everton – a very good Academy and plenty of good graduates to pick from. English starlets like Michael Roberts and Michael Ngoo and maybe the former Rangers player Danny Wilson. But there is one player in particular that the Wolves defence should look out for.

The 16-year-old starlet Suso (Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáenz de la Torre) from Cadiz, Spain who came to the club this summer, but has already played a few minutes for Roy Hodgson’s first team in pre-season. He also played and scored for the Liverpool Reserves when they drew to Newcastle latest.

Sadly, Wolves young starlet in the Reserves team – 17-year-old Jake Cassidy (not so many names but much tougher ones in my opinion 😆) – from Wales will not play tonight. He is on international training camp with the Wales U19.

So bring on Liverpool. It will be a perfect game for our young lads to get some match training and a good night to take their first win in the League for the season.

WOLVES: Hennessey, Ebanks-Landell, Mouyokolo, Hill, Reckord, Doherty, Rooney, Harris, Milijas, Hemmings, Malone. SUBS: McCarey, Forde, Gorman, Mujangi-Bia.

  1. Just a heads-up – the whole of the match is on Liverpool FCTV, Chan 434, at 10pm tonight.

  2. Sorry should have mentioned that is SKY Channel 434

  3. A poor first half performance, 2 goals down in the first 10 mins saw us struggle. After about 15 mins Matt Hill was switched from left back to the centre of defence, swapping places with Reckord which saw an improvement in the defence. Reckord showed some decent play going forward, but Liverpool dominated the first half and should have gone in 3 or 4 up. Second half Wolves were much better. Milijas and Molne came more into the game and up front Hemmings showed some decent touches and runs but the lack of a decent final ball reduced his chances. Mujangi-Bia came off the bench and hit the underside of the bar with a tremedous 30 yard strike, he also missed a very good opportunity to get one back for Wolves but a weak effort saw the ball to wide. Mouyokolo played for the full 90 mins and obviously looked a little off the pace, the 90 mins will have done him the world of good although I cant say his performance was impressive, just ok. Not a bad match, played at a decent pace and Wolves made a game of it in the 2nd half after a poor 1st half.

    • Thank you, sevlow! Interesting with the switch in defence. Was it Reckord that was better stopping – was it Ince or Suso? – going forward or was it that Hill was better in the middle – or maybe both?

The fact that Mouyokolo played the whole 90 probably means that he will not play on Saturday. I wonder who will. Stearman or Batth? Zubar can not be match fit – or can he?

  4. Ince and Suso were up against Ebanks-Landell and gave him a rough time.
With regards to Reckord, he was better going forward down the left linking up with Malone. Matt Hill did ok, he put himself about and was involved a lot, if only his final ball was better quality!

I expect Stearman or Mancienne to replace Berra on Saturday, Mancienne is probably the quicker of the pair so he may get the call.

Zubar is not fit, he was due to play in the reserves last night but injured his ankle.
