This and that from the week

My rl (real life) has inflicted on my dl (digital life) this week so I’ve been out of site. But let me recall some of the the things in and around Wolves for you.

Firstly. I will not bother about rating the players from the Villa game. Not because they were playing under par – they did not, we were the better team – but too long time has gone now.

But I’m gutted about the harsh critique of Dave Edwards by the fans. I’ve seen the rerun of the match two times and he performs well. If he had scored early on he would have a rating over average from me, and in fact he got it from Sky Sports anyway.

The only player not performing to his abilities was Stephen Ward, but he didn’t get enough support from his mates and his wing was under constant attack because of McCarthy insisting to start with the wrong formation. But end of that now.

The saddest thing about the Villa match was perhaps that Adlène Guédioura broke his leg and he will be out for fur to six months. Just when he was going somewhere. Gutted!

A lot of Wolves players have been called up for international games as usual.

Foley and Doyle are called up to the Republic Of Ireland national team – as is Andy Keogh.

Michael Mancienne is in the England U21 squad to play Romania in the European Championship play-off.

And young Jonny Gorman is still in the squad for the Northern Ireland Euro 2012 qualifiers with Italy and the Faroe Islands.

Chris Berra and Steven Fletcher are of course both named in the squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 double-header with the Czech and Spain.

I don’t know if Milijas and Van Damme are called up to their national teams, but it’s very probable.

Let’s look upon how our players out on loan did in the week.

Cardiff City played a goalless draw at home against Crystal Palace in the week and Andy Keogh played the match besides former Wolves player Jay Bothroyd. But it was Crystal Palace who were closer to get three points.

They play Barnsley away next tomorrow and I believe that Keogh will get another chance to shine before Bellamy is fit again.

Carl Ikeme will play  at least another month out on-loan to Leicester City. He will probably follow them for a tour to Thailand for training and playing their national team in the international break.

I find it interesting that they want him for another month, despite their own keepers seem to be fit now. Maybe they want him permanent and sees the trip to Thai as a good opportunity to gel him into the team?!

Our tall guy from Austria – The Hoff – lost out with MSV Duisburg to Union Berlin last. A bit unexpected. Maierhofer is in the squad for their European Championship qualifying games against Azerbaijan and Belgium.

Nat Mendez-Laing played one minute when Posh registered a victory against MK Dons last weekend and three minutes when they lost against Notts County in the week. Looks as the manager prefers to play Tomlin now. Not good for the kids development.

On loan Wolves player David Davis has grabbed a position on the Walsall midfield, but he is still waiting for a win at the club. He says to the clubs Official Site:

There is no doubt that we have the ability here. All it needs is a positive result to kick-start things and hopefully we can build on Tuesday’s result and get a win against Yeovil. It’s been a similar story in most of my games so far where we have had good spells on top and created chances, but a combination of individual errors and not having that bit of luck, which every team needs, has cost us.

I am quite pleased with my own performances so far; I have come in and fitted into the system, but the lads have to take their fair share of the credit for that. They have been excellent and made me feel part of the team straight away.

Very good that DD gets to play and I wish Walsall a win come Saturday.

Well, that’s about it, really. Now I will have some lunch and then ponder about the match against Wigan.

One Response to “This and that from the week”

  1. I set my money on Wolves, playing with my wolfheart, but it will be a tough game with all these injuries. It all depends on MM. We could take them by surprise by playing Miljas. And I really want to see Zubar back into action – his capacity, running up and down the right side last season gave us extra amunition (and yes he could play on the right wing, he or Foley. And Elokobi deserves a chance from start. Will Fletcher and Doyle start up front? probably! Blake isn’t too far behind. Can’t wait to see what MM does tactically, expecting change in some way or another.
