Loan Watch: The Hoff scores a brace again (video)

For the third time this season the Wolves out on-loan striker Stefan ‘The Hoff’ Maierhofer scores a brace in a game for MSV Duisburg.

He did that against rather weak opposition in the DFB cup against Halle, but he sure shows everybody that he is a goalscorer.

In the international break he was also playing for Austria when they managed a draw, playing 4-4 against Belgium.

Before the cup came against Halle MSV played against Karlsruhe in the league, winning by three goals to nothing. Duisburg look very strong now and are on third place in the second Bundes liga.

After the match in the cup on Wednesday Maierhofer spoke to the press and said:

If I continue like this no-one will talk about a Toni Polster brace anymore. But the most important thing is first and foremost that we are succesful as a team.

But The Hoff did not only kick balls into the net in this match, he was succesful in defending aswell, something that manager McCarthy at Wolves will probably embrace.

And he managed to upset the Halle crowd by showing them the victory sign after blocking a Halle shot towards the end of the game. Perhaps something he learned when in England, as Sir Winston Churchill is said to be the inventor of that sign.

The first goal from The Hoff was from a 25 yard free-kick that went through the wall. The second came from a header in the area. But you can watch them yourselves from the clip below.

The question is. Will The Hoff be brought back to play for Wolves ever again? The answer from me is that I don’t believe so.

But The Hoff doing well at Duisburg could mean that a strong first Bundes liga team will be interested in signing him in summer and Wolves will get at least their money back on him.

  1. He’s better than Bent, that’s for sure. We should get Carew when the transferwindow opens. He is available for transfer.
