Wolves player in official Team Of The Week

The Wolves midfielder David Edwards earned himself a spot in the ‘official’ Team Of The Week made up of EA Sports for Barclay’s Premier League (the owners of the Premier League organisation).

Part of it is of course because he scored the decisive goal of the game against Manchester City, but I like to think that he got in the good company of players like Vidic, Nana, Yakobu and others because of his excellent performance on other accounts aswell.

Edwards said to the official Wolves site after the game:

I’d had the header in the first half which came back off the post and thought it might not be my day but it was great to get the goal – the best feeling in the world. It’s my first goal for a long time, since September of last year, although I did have the injury since then. Hopefully it can kick start my season as well as the rest of the lads and I can pick up some more goals. Myself and Nenad (Milijaš) both got goals which shows we can supply some from midfield.

We forced them into mistakes through our hard work and commitment and when we got the ball our quality shone through. The lads played really well at United last week and that gives us confidence to go back there on Saturday and believe we can cause another upset. I think the big four might be a bit more beatable this season than in other seasons.

Dave Edwards has played better and better since his come back after injury and with the now balanced team he performs the role as ‘number 10’ or ‘in the hole’ as it often is called.

But Edwards is such a hard grafter and a box-to-box player so he finds the time and the strength to work back a lot aswell – something that the ordinary number 10’s are not that good at. At least not as good as Edwards.

I think it’s a good choice by Barclay’s and Dave fully deserves his place among the best in the league for the week. But shouldn’t Jarvis and Milijas been awarded the same recognition? You can see the team HERE.

  1. I have mixed feelings about Edwards but the last few games has made me have a re-think. I will, however, reserve judgement if he continues this form and becomes consistant!
