Youth Watch: Hat-trick for Zele Ismail against Manchester United (Video)

The Wolves Under 18’s did much better against their United counterparts than the first team when it comes to results.

They met Manchester United at home and could claim a revenge for the loss away by winning with four goals against nothing. Three of the goals were scored by Zele Ismael!

It was the heaviest defeat that the United Under 18’s have taken this season and the largest win by Wolves. Reports at Manchester says that the Wolves youngsters gave them a cruel lesson and were totally dominant on the pitch.

For the first goal Ismail challenged their central defender and former Charlton player Sean McGinty and rounded their goalkeeper Jacob and tucked it in.

The second goal he took from the spot after a handball in the area by a United player. The referee didn’t approve of the first penalty, so he had to place the ball in the net a second time.

3-0 was a header by Liam McAlinden in the beginning of the second half.

The last goal – to complete the Zele hat-trick – he clipped past the United goalie at the near post after a low cross from the right.

Thank you, Zele and the Under 18’s. You have made the first team loss against United a little lighter to handle.😆

Long highlights with the goals now available under ‘Videos’ in the right margin!

Wolves: East, Kostrna, Griffiths, Ihiekwe, Cranston, Ismail, Price, Harris, Forde, Landell, McAlinden. Subs: Cotman, Keane, Parsonage, Whittall, Kempton

  1. United line up was very weak for them, missing Johnstone, Thorpe, Massacci, Fryers, Pogba, Tunnicliffe, Morrison, Keane and Cofie. It was basically their under 16 side but still good result for wolves, just dont think would have stood a chance if united had their full team out

  2. Oh so when United play against Wolves they always do with the reserves. The first team played with their Reserves in the Carling Cup and yesterday and the Academy with their Under 16. So today the Reserves will most probably play with their reserve players or at least with their Academy team. Why don;t you give credit where credit is due.
Oh by the way Chelsea and Manchester City played with their Reserves too against Wolves. Don’t make me laugh.

  3. Good win by the lads-you can only beat what’s put in front of you, anyway I think you will find that a lot of our under 18s are well below that age and mainly 16s + trialists. But eh I suppose any win against Utd is a fluke, speaking of flukes – what was that by their first team on Saturday?

  4. DB’s right in saying we (United) were missing a lot of our better players (not sure if that was due to illness or them being saved for the reserve game between our two clubs on Monday), but credit where it’s due, Wolves have had a really good team at this level for years now and Ismail looks class – to say they’d have not stood a chance if we’d had a full team out is arrogant nonsense. It certainly wasn’t ‘basically their under 16 side’, only three were under 16s.

  5. Sorry – only two were under 16s, my mistake.

    • So it was ten under sixteen and now we’re down to just two?!!
Wolves do have an under 18’s team that is one of the best in the country and on their day they can beat anyone. The Manchester United Academy is a good one, but not in a class of their own at all. But it’s a good scalp to take for our young ones. And it must have been a boost for the confidence of Ismail to get a hat-trick against them.

  6. I never said there were ten under sixteen? I put three by mistake and then corrected it.

I couldn’t agree more about your academy, like I said they’ve been strong against us for the last few years and we were lucky to get a draw down there last year with a last minute equaliser. Even with a full-strength side there’s no guarantee we’d have got anything from the game, especially after seeing the highlights.

    • Sorry, nickogs20 and thank you for your praise of our youth team, There was another United poster here who said that, but you corrected that aswell.
