Loan Watch: Goal by The Hoff and assist by Hemmings (video)

So what’s up with our players out on-loan?

Stefan Maierhofer – loaned out to MSV Duisburg in the German 2nd Bundesliga for the season – is still going strong, but his team should have done better on Monday when they only got a draw against Cottbus at home.

The Hoff came close to a goal already in the 6th minute, but hit the side-netting with a header. Instead it was Cottbus that took the lead after 20 minutes from a volley by Jula.

Duisburg leveled it up just before halftime and they took the lead from a penalty-kick by our own The Hoff. But Cottbus changed it to a draw again three minutes later when the golden boot of Nils Peterson scored the tenth goal of the season.

This is the penalty by The Hoff:

Andy Keogh – on a season- long loan to Cardiff in the Championship – didn’t get any playing-time when they shockingly lost at home to Forest with two goals against nothing.

Bellamy played together with high flying former Wolves player and new England international Jay Bothroyd upfront and they managed only one shot on goal all game.

Maybe Andy will get some playing time on Saturday when they play new league leaders QPR away?!

Sam Vokes – is on the payroll of Bristol City in the Championship until January 6, but is still injured (hamstring) and will be out a couple of more weeks.

I’m not sure if he will be fit before January so he can play for Bristol again, but they could need him, despite winning against Leicester at home with 2-0.

Greg Halford – out on loan to Portsmouth in the Championship signed for a another month now – played against Barnsley and lost again.

It was a goal after just 13 minutes  that ruined the day for Pompey.

Greg played all match on the right back and yes, he had a couple of them throw-ins, but to no use this time.

Carl Ikeme – is back in Leicester in the Championship for a third loan period (month).

For the fourth match running he was not playing and nor on the bench.

But this time Leicester lost to Bristol – after a penalty save by David James – but being third choice I can’t see where Carl will fit in. He might as well come home and wait for his turn. Maybe he will be second choice after Hens soon?!

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing – will be in Peterborough in League One until end of season.

And as I have told yu earlier Posh does not perform at all right now. Nat played only the last  20 minutes or so and when he came on it was 3-0 to The Saints already, but they lost with 4-1.

Troubled manager Gary Johnson said to BBC:

Southampton came out the traps well and all sections didn’t perform today. We didn’t defend properly, we didn’t win the midfield battle and we didn’t hold it up upfront. The best team won on the day and we’ve got a little bit of work to do.

Ashley Hemmings – on a one month loan to Torquay in League Two – played for 75 minutes against Stockport.

But they manged only to get a draw. But it was a goal to each team and it was Ashley who made the Torquay goal by hitting the post and when it bounced out from it his team mate O’Kane could benefit and score.

It looks as Hemmings has presented himself now. Good!

Scott Malone – on a one month loan to Burton Albions in League Two – lost with 3-1 to third placed team Bury.

Scott played as a winger and as usual he took the free-kicks and crossed the ball i on several occasions, but not effectively enough as it seems.

The disappointed Burton manager said after the game:

I think they worked harder, they closed us down, and we were poor. We didn’t pass the ball well at all, it was our worst performance with regard to passing, and it’s disappointing. After having three fantastic performances to come up short in every aspect as we did today, it bothers us.
