Probable Team Lineups: Wolves v Wigan Athletic

Well. Here’s a six-pointer if any. And on Boxing Day and all. A fantastic chance for our guys to show they are survivors in this game.

We lost to Wigan away. But that was largely because Karl Henry was red-carded after only eleven minutes. Not an ideal start to a game.

This time around it is very different. We’re at home, Henry is out injured and Wolves have catched six points from the last three games.

But Wigan is in almost the same situation as us. They need points. And they have learned to play for one away from home now. With Figueroa and Thomas suspended and a couple of long term injuries they still will manage to put out a pretty good team.

I wrote about the injury situation in my latest article and it’s better but not good. But with Jarvis, Jones, Hunt and Berra back we have a better situation than a couple of weeks ago when we played and won against Birmingham.

Edwards did a very good analysis that I totally agree with when talking about the game against Birmingham to the E&S:

We’ve played a lot of good football this season without it really paying off. So if we get the ball forward a little quicker, it can work well for us and hopefully it will work for us again on Sunday.”

That is of course what I’ve been nagging about all season and something we were better at against Blues or as I put  it

“…we managed to get to them faster by turning play and run into their penalty area with speed taking them on when they were not fully organised.

To the lineups then, starting with Wolves. We will of course play with Hennessey in goal and Zubar, Stearman, Berra and Elokobi will surely walk in with the first eleven to play in the defence.

The midfield is a little harder to predict, but I believe that we will see Milijas there together with Edwards and Hunt. That leaves Jarvis on the bench to come in when needed.

Then there is one position to call for and I think Foley will take it and leave Dave Jones on the bench. Upfront we have Wardy and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Pretty much as we played against Birmingham.

Wigan is formed as a 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3 in attack) with N’Zogbia, Roddallega and Cleverley upfront. With a couple of players out they have to do a little patching in the defence and midfield.

Here are the probable starting elevens for the Boxing Day game at Molineux. The result? A win for Wolves! I’m 95% certain. 😆

  1. Hopefully we’ll have a good lead late into the game, and we can see our youngsters.
I really want them to start playing, because I’m sure our Academy could add some flair and might to the team.
