Hunty on fire in the rain (video)

The in form Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt was behind both goals for the Republic of Ireland when they overcame Italy with 2-0 tonight in Liege, Belgium in a friendly.

The first one came after the first half hour when Hunt fooled the Italian defence by playing the ball back to Andrews after a free-kick. He scored a beautiful goal and Ireland was in the lead against play.

Just look at it!

Italy started the best and if it wasn’t for Wolves utility player Ward who convientely slipped in with a leg they would have taken the lead early on in the game.

In the last minutes of the game Hunty took the ball forward on his left wing and got round his defender to cross in beautifully, letting Simon Cox slide in to score the Republics second.

Nice, eh? Would Wolves have ended up in the middle of the Premiership with Hunty fit and hungry the past season? I do believe so and can’t wait for next season to start!

  1. Very nice to see the Irish Wolves winning.
They might make it a casual occurrence, and bring it into the Premier League! 🙂

  2. Fare play to hunty he just seems to get better and better, quick shout to wardy and foles final getting some real playing time for ireland, ecspecially wardy he should have got his capps a long time ago. Throught Andy played well too.

    • Yes. Wolves supporters should not write off Andy Keogh. He may be a surprise for many if he gets a good pre-season.

  3. Great to see Hunty on fire and got cox injured too. Do you think we should make a cheeky bid to bring Kean back? Fletch Doyle Seb & Kean do you think he will take a pay cut

    • I believe that Fletcher is better than Keane now, Marko. Robbie is still a good player but with his wages we can do better.

Rumours that we are interested in a Moroccan-French striker named Al-Arabi. I’m not so sure about that. And there are rumours in German media that Hannover96 – a very good Bundesliga club – are interested in Stefan ‘The Hoff’ Maierhofer.

But as always too much notice is paid to strikers. We need a defensive midfielder of top class and a couple of defenders with skills over average.

      • I wouldn’t pay kean a fortune but if he wants to rescue his career come back to wolves we need 4 top strikers yes we all defence is dire maybe Richard dunn in at the centre plus a left back

      • He’s on the way down in my opinion and I don’t believe that he fancies moving from London and his wage demands are huge. Why not Mackail-Smith from Posh instead? Could be a sensation in the Premiership and worth a chance signing.

      • Rumours circulating in the tabloids, linking Wolves to El Arabi. He is one hell of an attacker. I’ve seen some amazing videos on youtube El Arabi vs Marseille and against some other top teams in France. Brilliant technique, very influential, and besides doing stuff on his own, he can set up other players as well. Just what we need – a world class player. He could be for Wolves what Zlatan is for Milan.

      • I’ve seen a couple of videos with El Arabi aswell and I’m not equally convinced of his greatness and it’s always easy to compile a couple of minutes of quality from a players actions. The question is always if he is tough enough to play a Premier League defence and play in the tempo of the best league in the world and sadly you’ll never know completely before you try. Therefore I prefer tried out Premiership players, but they seem to be very costly this summer.

  4. DEFENCE !!! Thats where we are weak. Ward isnt a defender – Id much rather have him as a “new signing” upfront, to pave the way for 2 or 3 at the back.

I have no doubt keogh has quality and hold the ball up well etc… but he IS NOT A STRIKER… he is useless in front of goal. if we could get some money for him to help fund a LB we should go for it.

Halford and Goalmeier are off, Ikeme almost certainly to Leicester, lets hope these help fund our back line.

Hunt, Jarvo, Kightly hammil, FLetcher and Doyle are all quality attacking players…. we dont need to spend in this dpt. Perhaps a creative (and attacking) midfielder to play alongisde Milijas in a Jarvis X Mlijas Hunt Midifeld…. now that would be potent
