Wolves did it again! Why? (video)

Like most Wolves supporters I didn’t have the opportunity to watch the League Cup game against Northampton, but I’ve read lots of reports about the victory.

Wolves changed all eleven from the Fulham game and could win with 4-0. These cup games are usually not at all easy to win, ask QPR, Norwich and Swansea, the freshmen of the Premier League. And big spending Sunderland are also out of the cup.

Wolves prevailed easily, though. Why?

The first answer is of course that we this season have quality x 2 at every position, but McCarthy revealed another very important reason in an interview after the game on the official site:

“I told them after the first game (against Blackburn) they’d be playing in this one and we had a friendly against Shrewsbury at the training ground which they played in.

There were just a few shifts because Zubes (Ronald Zubar) got injured but they all knew. They’d been training and playing together because they knew they’d be involved in this game.”

So the team were well prepared to play and had practised together for several days. Brilliant! That is of course the way to go about when playing the cups. A great victory for the team, but also for Mick, TC and the management.

A friend of mine who watched the game gives a special mention to Milijas and Foley in the inner midfield and of course the impressive two times scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (nananananana) 😆

Some stats and facts from the game:

——–De Vries———-
Doherty – Craddock (c) – Elokobi – Reckord
Kightly – Milijaś – Foley (Davis 85) – Hammill (Forde 85)
—-Ebanks-Blake (Griffiths 80) – Vokes ——

Unused subs: Hennessey, Stearman, Henry, Ward.

Goals: Ebanks-Blake 31, 76, Milijaś 37, Vokes 88)

Possession : Northampton 47% Wolves 53%
Shots On Target : 4 8
Shots Off Target : 5 7
Corners : 5 3
Fouls : 9 9

I found a clip from the game with the goals, but it’s not the best of qualities (I don, t mean the goals, but the video) 😆

Happy times!

  1. Happy days… we’ve always underperformed in the cups, but it seems there is a slightly new approach – and it definitely worked… i am eager to see Foley back in the first squad, in defence, he is quality, and also brilliat going fwd… Read that Griifths might be loaned out, which would leave us with only 4 recognised strikers… seems a bit lean, but if we are going to recruit i hope its another defender.

  2. I’m wondering if new arrivals are under way. With Maierhofer signed up by an austrian club it would be ideal to sign an extra striker. MM has been seen at Middlesbrough matches, and some rumours claim he’s been watching Marvin Emnes, a very good player when he’s at his best.
According to Wikipedia he was a sprinter in his youth.

There’s no news of Hitzelsberger saga

    • Yes, I read that rumour too. A fast runner in the middle might be just what we need in counter-attack. With our two wingers it would be a lethal weapon against the best teams as they always go high up the pitch only leaving the two central defenders in the back.

  3. Hitzlsperger joined Wolfsberg last week.

    Try to keep up!!
