Analysis & Ratings: Wolves v West Bromwich

Wolves v West Bromwich 1-5. This is the worst result against them in 50 years.

This blog will be closed for new articles until Mick McCarthy leaves his management at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

There’s only one man that can save Wolves from relegation and Wolves playing at a half filled Molineux now.

Mr Morgan, ACT NOW!!!

  1. Stop sitting on the fence Paddy………….

    • 😦 If you read my blog I’ve lost much of my confidence in McCarthy already earlier this season, paulus, but this was the final drop. I hope and believe that Morgan is a man of reason.

  2. Welcome back Paddy. You going to reply to my question about Lard Arse Blake I made a few weeks ago ? In fact too many sub standard Championship players. Bet Fletcher, Doyle and Jarvis can’t wait to get out. Unless action is taken now we will follow Coventry.

  3. I think the results and play suggests it’s time for another manager to take over now, yes. Any manager makes his own luck and that’s exactly what MM has done by aquiring those players he has done; both now injured. I’m not surprised, given the circumstances; all the new players brought in to save Wolves from relegation are down, that Morgan hits the emergency button for a different escape route; a new manager with a different philosophy.

My first choice would be Ian Holloway!

  4. 1. Wolves can’t afford to pay off McCarthy.
    2. Wolves can’t afford to pay off the club for a replacement manager.
    3. A club in our position manager is a poisoned chalice, nobody that is any good would leave another club to manage us.

    Possible replacements:

Glen Hoddle? Phil Brown? Steve Coppell? Roy Keane? Iain Dowie? Bryan Robson? Steve Bruce? Ian Warnock? Dave Bassett?

  5. Kjetil Rekdal is also a good shout! He rescued Hertha Berlin once and has done an excellent job at his present norwegian club Aalesund. He has excellent tactical skills! Recently he was asked by a reporter if he would be interested to manage his favorite club Leeds. He answered no, it would be too tiresome; because of the extreme highs, emotionally, when they win, and extreme lows when they lose. But he wished that Leeds will hire a modern manager, not someone from the old school that justs stands and shouts from the sideline.

I believe Rekdal is such a manager; modern. I would describe his style as balanced.

  6. Another interesting alternative would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He managed to win the norwegian top league in his first attempt and has also already been mentioned as Alex Ferguson’s successor.

He represents an attack minded style of football.

  7. The only way Morgan will act is if no one goes to games I have stopped why don’t you?
McCarthy must be made an example of I do not care who comes in someone walking past the ground at the right time would do!

  8. It wasn’t the players who lost us that game – it was the tactics and the way the team were set-up! Right from the word go we were overrun in midfield and every time a WBA attack was broken up the ball seemed to end up back at the feet of one of their midfield players. That plus the fact (as we all have known for years with the exception of MM it seems) that our defence is not good enough.

  9. 1. McCarthy thought he could play Doyler, Fletcher and Sylvan with the same effect as against QPR – naive mistake number 1 as we weren’t playing against 10 men!
    2. Doyle and Jarvis in midfield but constantly out of position/ upfront leaving the midfield over-run (O’Hara and Edwards vs their 5 man midfield) – naive mistake number 2 not changing this sooner/ using Hunt or Hammil to give us better shape.
    3. At half time the Albion subs were doing warm up drills while our boys were taking turns in goal while the others took shots at them like school boys in the park – says a lot about our professionalism.

However, we find ourselves in a position where it could cost too much to sack the manager and pay off another club (Chris Houghton would be my choice if we could….) and the remaining out of work managers are not viable/ better alternatives in my opinion. It pains me to say but I think we will have to stick with McCarthy and hope that a miracle leaves three other clubs in a worse position than us come May 2012. Somehow McCarthy has got to inject belief, togetherness, discipline and energy back into our team because those players are capable of performing at this level….

  10. Inexpicable team selection-my instant response on seeing it “well there will be a lot of goals but not from us”!
Foley hopelessly lost not sure whether he was in defence or midfield. Bassong looking to get off asap after constantly waving his hands at the distance between him and Ward who was in midfield.
Doyle in defence for long periods (and kept us in it until goal 3) and stuck in some aimless “roving” role
That sack of shit Blake unable to control any ball that came near him what a bloody waste of a place. No one can really tell me that Hammill would have been worse surely!?!?!
Edwards slipping and stumbling as he tried to cover most of the midfield with OHara agaisnt 5 men.
The ultra quick Hammill on the bench AGAIN!!!!!!
McStubborn brings on bloody Mijilas just who you really need against a highly mobile and quick team.
Poor Jarvis playing both wings but totally closed down with static Wolves players all around him.

Looking at the droves leaving 15 mins before leaving and talking to the guys around me about Early Bird one thing is clear Wolves will be short a lot of cash the rest of this season in normal tickets sales and more importantly advance money from early bird receipts.

    10,000 early birds = £4 million.

Ok small change compared to the cost of dropping to the Championship but this should not be lost on a very successful businessman like Morgan. The sacred Cow can’t be milked forever..loyalty and support must be earned and not just taken for granted.

Blackburn will be my last Wolves game until McStubborn goes and no ST renewal-too fed up and too poor!

  11. Super MM !!!!

He deserves a new 5 year contract.

  12. We should have hired Rafa back in January. We lost all chance of staying in the premiership. I got a feeling we might end up like Sheffield United. Down to third division.

We need a new manager, and FAST. But his ability to tinker with the team is now extremely limited.

How could we end up like this? Morgan didn’t learn from the lessons of last year.

To hell with this. I got a new girlfriend and I can’t afford to be depressed with her all the time. I’m out.

  13. I logged on this morning hoping, no, praying that I would read that the muppet had been sacked.

Please, Please, has everyone taken their crazy pill ? How else can you not feel the way I do and want to drive up the M40 and break his fucking legs..

I feel like Ive been banging my head against a wall, i ve wanted this muppet gone for well over a year now, and it would seem that EVERY Wolves fan now ants the same thing – BUT WE ARE STILL STUCK WITH HIM..

Honestly, please, how are some of you able to stand this ???

No more watching of Wolves until the cunt is gone.

    Im done.

  14. He’s gone……

  15. Thank goodness cos that was a promise i dont think i was capable of honoring…. Exciting stuff Wolfies !!

    PS
Moxey must read your Blog Paddy 🙂

    • Yes, he must have had a flash of pound notes with wings flying away from him and the club. 😆

  16. Paddy, That tirade in red above was not very subtle was it.Mick McCarthy deserved better. And it is not 50 years since we last lost 5 -1 to the Baggies. That defeat was in the autumn of 1964.I have not checked it out in any book, but I was there.Astle scored two maybe a hatrick in one of his first games for them.He destroyed our debutant Graham Hawkins, who later become our manager.Just a bit of history. One day in the fullness of time you will regret the tone of your comments above. It is far from certain that Wolves will manage to appoint a manager half as good as Mick McCarthy in the next two weeks.

    • It wasn’t meant to be subtle, chris hoggard, but I do agree that McCarthy rightfully will be regarded as one of our best managers. The article above, though, was meant to put pressure on the Wolves management to replace him and written in affect after the Shits game. There are only a few managers who can perform year after year in the same club and the performances of McCarthy have not been good this season. I’ve been a supporter of Mick for five of his five and a half years in the club, but it’s the club first, not the management.

You are totally right that Wolves lost to the Shits with 5-1 in 1964, but that was on their home ground. We lost with the same numbers at Molineux in 1962.

About the new manager I hope that the club can announce Mr Curbishley on Wedensday and I do believe that he can be as good if not better than McCarthey for years to come. He was the manager of Charlton for 15 years and took them up to the Premier League and managed them there for 6 years.

  17. Curbishley for me too – or what was the point of dismissing MM!
